Journal post week 3/4

Journal
In week 3/4 we had to brain storm all the different Mise-en-scene we would use in our title sequence, we then to the best ideas that suit out film and put them in our story board which I have shown in another post.

We also had a lesson on foley sound this was to help us learn about sound design and how sound is very important to get your story across to the audience.

The foley sound will play a big part in our title sequence, we have already start planning some sound design now.

Making of Props

Making of Money

For our title sequence we had to create money, as that is our main theme behind our film. We will be buring the money in a briefcase which signifies all the money that Luther has been wasting all his life. We used £50 notes and got the the specific measurements of the a website that I have shown below. We then had to cut up plain paper to the size of the notes and to make them realistic we died them in tea this made it look like the notes were real.

This is how we created the money

Story Boards

Story Boarding
Before shooting we had to prepare our story board in order for us to know and visualise what we need to shoot for our title sequence. The story boards will consist of the different shots and mini clips which will in the end make our title sequence. Although we have drawn ideas down these ideas may change at any time if we see it fit to change.

These are the diagrams from our Story Boards.

Sound Track Research

Sound Track Research
Audio network was the website which helped our group find the best sound track for our title sequence it exceeded our expectations, as the sound track fits in very well with our sequence. We also had to make sure that our sound track copy right free, this was convenient as Audio network is a copy right free website

Typography/Font Research

Typography research

To research what type of font we would use for our titles I used www.dafont.com. As a group we chose two fonts each and are going to do a survey to see what font is the best for our film.

These are some of my suggestions to our title fonts, I chose a more basic look towards the font as our movie comes across as simple and straight forward, and there isn't that much style, however I wanted to find a gangsta type of font which I fialed to find one that would suit our title sequence.

As a group we decided that we would use the font that Harry found as it was the best.

This was Harry’s suggestions
Harry thought that this font is good for our film because it is in uppercase and this shows professionalism, which our film represents. Our film is a thriller/gangster genre; this typography fits it because it is bold and undistorted which is popular for gangster movies such as Goodfellas, which is shown in the picture below.

Film

Film Studio Introduction

For the opening of our Title we had to research what film  studio we would be using and we decided to use LIONSGATE  as they had produced films that are similar to ours. We got the clip of the opening from youtube, we then had to download it to add it onto our title sequence.

As a group we decided to choose 'Lionsgate' to be the studio our film. We was asked to research into different studios and then to put their titles into our title sequence. These will feature at the beginning of our title sequence. We chose Lionsgate because they have worked with actors who star in our film for example Jason Statham (Transporter 3) , Tom Hardy (Warrior) , Tamer Hassan (Blood Out) , Ray Winstone (Tracker) , Idris Elba (Daddy's Little Girl). Therefore this shows that the actors we have chosen may have a good relationship with the studio and like the way that they work as a studio. Lionsgate are also well known for being a very successful studio due to films such as Hunger Games which made $408,010,692 and the 'Expendables which made $103,068,524.

Lionsgate also distributed 'Harry Brown' which is a famous British crime film which in some aspects is similar to ours due to the setting and also the violence used within the movie.

Also Lionsgate tend to focus mainly on foreign and independent films, and is perhaps best known for distributing films that are too controversial for the large American companies. Therefore we felt that due to the storyline it may appeal to 'Lionsgate' the most out of the well known studios.

This is the clip we downloaded and added to our title sequence.

Feedback

Feedback of My Blog
Video Feedback
Received feedback from Mr Grimsley on my blog. Firstly he gave me positive feedback on the presentation of my Blog, however he wasn’t very impressed with the quantity of work I had done at this point and time. He then asked me to catch up and keep myself to speed, and add more detail to my work that was already produced. I will be adding more depth and content to my work and also catching up with bits I have missed to ensure I get better feedback next time Sir views my blog.

Typography and Design

The importance of Typography and Design

The importance of Typography and design

In today’s lesson we learnt about the importance of typography and how it can totally change how a title sequence looks and how the audience can interpret it. The fonts used have to fit the genre specifically otherwise it will not look right and may give a different impression to the audience about the movie.

When analysing a title sequence there are five Things to consider:

  •  Genre

  • Style/mood

  • Possible narratives

  • Production values

  • Themes

Journal post week 2

Journal
As our second task we had to produce a power point, following our film, the power point consisted of a Log line, characters, plot, producer and the budget which we would need for this film to be a success.

After delivering our pitch the class then took time to give us some feed back on what works and what doesn't, I have shown this in the post showing all feed back from the class.

Planning of Title Sequence

Planning of Title Sequence

Today we started our story boarding, and planning of our title sequence. We looked at different ideas and editing we could use for our title sequence. We could possible have two of our main characters in our  title sequence, Anton and Terry Jones. The credits are likely to be place on plain playing cards, this potteries a gangster film.

We listed a number of ideas

Editing:
  • Fading into Shots
  • Black and White (Right or Wrong)
  • Close up of Anton hands on head
  • Voices in his head
  • Beeping Hospital sound
Ideas:
  • Exchanging money
  • Map of London
  • Pin pointing (plotting)
  • Club Cards
  • Ticking clock (sound)
  • Cooking books
  • Letter of death
  • Burning Money
  • Police flashing Lights
  • London street signs

Film Studios

Film Studios
Aims: To be able to indicate how Films are produced and distributed.
: To research and decide, on the film studio that will produce/distribute our film.

A Film Studio is a company that produces and or distributes motion pictures.

As a class we listed around 30 Film Studios.

  • Fox
  • Pixar
  • Paramount
  • Dream works
  • Lions gate
  • Miramax
  • Touchstone
  • MGM
  • Sony
  • Studio C
  • Film Four
  • Disney
  • Universal
  • Orion
  • Fox searchlight
  • Marvel
  • Nickelodeon
  • Columbia

There are Six main Studios operating today.
  1. Walt Disney
  2. Universal
  3. Warner Bros
  4. Sony/Columbia
  5. Fox
  6. Paramount

Each of these will own Subdivisions which specialise in niche films. This is based on genre and budget.

This is the order in which the money is spilt in.

A distribution company is in charge of getting the film out to audiences, this involves organising for the film to receive an age certificate by regulation bodies such as the BBFC and MPPA arranging exhibitions.

In the second part of our lesson we the went away in a groups to research which film studio would produce/distribute our films. In our group we decided that Lionsgate would produce/distribute Inherited Empire because

Journal week 1

Journal
Our first task as a group was to create film ideas to come and share with our group and the class and then make a decision on which film idea was the best.

In our group we thought Charlie's idea had the most potential, we then as a group expanded the idea to create a British thriller which will involve big stars and a big producer.

The film will be based in London and our sequence will indicate just what our film is about.
