Finishing of Cards in Photoshop

Editing Cards
Editing the cards on photoshop wasn't an easy task at all especially since we all hadn't used it that much to know what we were doing. Firstly we had to download samples of the cards we wanted and make sure that they had enough space for us to write the names of the starring characters.

We then looked at various fonts we could use to create a sense of continuity through out the sequence, we then found the font and edited it to the size and effects we wanted. Following this we had to research card sizes, not knowing that the all cards are different sizes we based it on our research and as the images will show, the measurements were incorrect we then had too try a number of times to get the  right size, but we got there in the end.

When it came to printing we used photo paper to create the same effect as a normal card, we printed on normal paper first to make sure that it was the right size and then printed it on the photo paper, when printed the one of the cards had a different shade of white which we had to edit, but we had merged the images all together so we had to start that specific card again and merge it back in.

The cards look good not that they are finished, we look forward to shoot the scene again.

This is a sample of all the
cards we played with to
come up with the right size.

Story Boards

Story Boarding
Before shooting we had to prepare our story board in order for us to know and visualise what we need to shoot for our title sequence. The story boards will consist of the different shots and mini clips which will in the end make our title sequence. Although we have drawn ideas down these ideas may change at any time if we see it fit to change.

These are the diagrams from our Story Boards.

Sound Track Research

Sound Track Research
Audio network was the website which helped our group find the best sound track for our title sequence it exceeded our expectations, as the sound track fits in very well with our sequence. We also had to make sure that our sound track copy right free, this was convenient as Audio network is a copy right free website

Film

Film Studio Introduction

For the opening of our Title we had to research what film  studio we would be using and we decided to use LIONSGATE  as they had produced films that are similar to ours. We got the clip of the opening from youtube, we then had to download it to add it onto our title sequence.

As a group we decided to choose 'Lionsgate' to be the studio our film. We was asked to research into different studios and then to put their titles into our title sequence. These will feature at the beginning of our title sequence. We chose Lionsgate because they have worked with actors who star in our film for example Jason Statham (Transporter 3) , Tom Hardy (Warrior) , Tamer Hassan (Blood Out) , Ray Winstone (Tracker) , Idris Elba (Daddy's Little Girl). Therefore this shows that the actors we have chosen may have a good relationship with the studio and like the way that they work as a studio. Lionsgate are also well known for being a very successful studio due to films such as Hunger Games which made $408,010,692 and the 'Expendables which made $103,068,524.

Lionsgate also distributed 'Harry Brown' which is a famous British crime film which in some aspects is similar to ours due to the setting and also the violence used within the movie.

Also Lionsgate tend to focus mainly on foreign and independent films, and is perhaps best known for distributing films that are too controversial for the large American companies. Therefore we felt that due to the storyline it may appeal to 'Lionsgate' the most out of the well known studios.

This is the clip we downloaded and added to our title sequence.

Planning of Title Sequence

Planning of Title Sequence

Today we started our story boarding, and planning of our title sequence. We looked at different ideas and editing we could use for our title sequence. We could possible have two of our main characters in our  title sequence, Anton and Terry Jones. The credits are likely to be place on plain playing cards, this potteries a gangster film.

We listed a number of ideas

  • Map of London
  • Pin pointing (plotting)
  • Club Cards

  • Cooking books
  • Letter of death
  • Burning Money
  • Police flashing Lights
  • London street signs
  • Home with crime sign

Inherited Empire Planning, Research and Analysis

Inherited Empire
As part of our course work we were grouped up, in my group is Charlie L, Charlie N, Harry M. To begin with we had to plan a film individually, things we had to consider for the film are the Film name, Characters and Actors most likely to play the roles, we then had to come up with 3 film ideas of which one would be on the shortlist, then as a group we would choose the best idea to carry through.

When then all agreed that Harry M had the best idea, which we then pitched to our class mate and teacher. The pitch consisted of a log line, a plot, the actors that would star in the film, a budget and the target audience. Below is the presentation we pitched to the class.

During our pitch our class mates had to give us some feedback on what they thought of our film idea. Of the four feedback sheets only one gave us three star rating, the rest were two star, this may have been because we didn't give the whole film away which left them with some questions to ask. Another factor that we found out was the budget we set a lot of people didn't  understand that why our budget was so high from the similar film we had researched, however they didn't understand that we have a very demanding cast with the likes of Tom Hardy and Jason Statham. Which is why our budget was set so high to accommodate these high demanding actors. We also didn't make our target audience very clear in the pitch however we explained to the class that our target audience would be 15-35 year men.

Improvements-
  • We need to include a release date
  • Specific target audience

Continuity Video

Continuity Clip AS Media

Evaluation
We had to carry out a preliminary exercise of a short Continuity clip demonstrating a character  opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom he/she exchange a couple lines of dialogue Maintaining rules such as the 180 degree rule, the shot reverse shot and the match on action shot. We found everything straight forward to carry out however during the editing of the we found it difficult as we didn't take enough shots for the editing next time we will look to take more than one shot of the same action to choose  to be as accurate as we could.

  • Shots take more shots
  • Maintaining continuity through out the clips
  • Improve my editing and Final Cut Pro
  • Followed all the requirements
  • Shots were well presented and it was clear what the clips were about

Improvement to be made
